Earlier this year I created a Sleater-Kinney forum to remedy the lack of active fan communities, but I've only just now felt the impetus to finish it. It's going to need faithful fans like you to get it going.

So if you're a fan of Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag, and the talented women in those bands, please drop by!

I made a new sleater-kinney blog over at tumblr. i'm gonna post harder to find interviews, magazine scans, bsides, live video, appearances on late night shows, etc. feel free to pop on over and check it out!

so sad that livejournal is slowly dying, and no one talks on here anymore. durrr. but i must say tumblr is a much easier venue for posting media. i just thought i would slowly share all of the stuff i acquired from (a) going to so many shows, (b) being a super collector fan, and (c) the beloved sleater-kinney depot.

if you have any neat, rare stuff, let me know! maybe i'd like to add it to my collection and add to the blog.

Active Communities/Forums?

I’ve been a fan of Sleater-Kinney for a few years (unfortunately, not before they broke up), but I've only recently reached the level of superfan craziness. I’ve been listening to everything I can get my hands on, watching Youtube videos, and searching for articles, concert reviews, and pictures. But it’s a little hard when your favorite band has gone on “indefinite hiatus” and a number of the accompanying websites are no longer working. And that's perhaps the most painful part. There don't seem to be any active online communities for S-K where I can share my love for these amazing women!

I’ve been spoiled when it comes to online music fandom. The other band that I love to obsessive levels is Fleetwood Mac. No judging! The boards I frequent for the Mac are very lively communities, with interesting discussions going on every day and a lot of bootleg sharing. Now, I realize that Fleetwood Mac has been around for much longer and has a much larger fanbase than a little indie band that could. Still, their most recent album came out a few years before S-K’s last album, yet they still have a very busy fan community.

Mostly, I just want to know where in the world I can go to interact with other Sleater-Kinney fans. I want to find a place where I can discuss my adoration of Corin, Carrie, and Janet with like minded people, where I can find out new things about these women and their songs, and acquire bootlegged music and videos of concerts, and all the other sorts of things that you want to do for your favorite band. I can’t find any active forums, and it breaks my heart!

Sleater-Kinney = A+ in Women's Studies

Ahoy, best S-K community ever!

In true S-K fan fashion I leap at any opportunity to incorporate my love for Sleater-Kinney into other aspects of my life, so when my Women's Studies class assignment was to write a 1-page essay + oral presentation on a feminist leader/group I obviously chose Hole.

HA. K anyway, here is my lil write-up that earned me an A+:

It was extremely difficult condense to 1 page, double-spaced...Collapse )

1,000 Years by the Corin Tucker Band

What are everyones opinions on it?
They are called Wild Flag and have some tour dates in the Northwest in November. (another reason why i am jealous of you chicks living in the Northwest!)

Corin Tucker Original Art--Up For Auction

I volunteer for an environmental non-profit group called Bark, based in Portland, Oregon.
For our 10th anniversary, we asked some of Mt. Hood's (our backyard National Forest) most prominent fans to draw us a sketch.
Corin Tucker was kind enough to donate a sketch of a screech owl, and her son Marshall and husband Lance donated sketches to us as well.
The sketches are all currently up for auction at Bark's Ebay site, and Corin's is at only .99 cents right now!
We're also having a free art opening and celebration on October 3rd at the downtown Stumptown location, from 6:30-8:30 PM. All the drawings will be on display, including others from the likes of Colin Meloy, Miranda July, and Ursula Le Guin.
Here's the Ebay store: stores.shop.ebay.com/Bark-Sketches

Ed Ved with an assist from Corin

Last night I found this brand spankin' new video of Corin singing "The Golden State" live with Eddie Vedder, from this past Saturday night, enjoy!

It's not as good as a solo Corin vid, but, I'll take it. And kudos to whoever shot this video, the quality is kinda fantastic, especially for youtube.

I'm crafty.

I decorated the living room of my apartment with a rock 'n' roll theme. It's heavy on the Sleater-Kinney, so I had the brilliant idea to turn Sleater-Kinney t-shirts into pillows for my couch. Of course I couldn't bear to cut up my own shirts, so I solicited a donation from a kind person on the S-K mailing list.

They turned out really freakin' awesome, and weren't that terribly difficult to make. (Which is a good thing because it turns out I retained absolutely nothing about sewing from that costume design class I took for my theater minor in college.) If anyone wants to know how to make their own I can try to put together a post with instructions. (Or I might be willing to do some for people if they don't have access to a sewing machine.)

The white pillow on the left has the same black fabric as the one on the right for its back. This shirt wasn't my favorite design, but it works really great as a pillow.

These just use the same shirt fabric for the back. The monkey one says 'Sleater-Kinney', and the bad one is plain.

More than a Feeling

Could anyone possibly send me Sleater-Kinney's cover of More Than A Feeling? Either on sendpace/megaupload/etc. or by email? (My email is abbyg723 (at) yahoo (dot) com). Thanks!
